GACS will never ask for your seed phrase, private keys or passwords, and never charges scam victims. Scam checks are free and ad-free.

Who called me from this phone number?

Enter the number that called you. We check it free against consumer complaints filed with the US Federal Trade Commission and scam reports from other visitors — then tell you what to do next.

What to do after an unknown call

1. Check the number

Paste it into the checker above. We look it up in Do Not Call complaints filed with the FTC and in reports from GACS visitors.

2. Don't call back

Calling back an unknown number can confirm your line is active, and some numbers charge premium rates. Let real callers leave a voicemail.

3. Look for scam signs

Urgency, threats of arrest or account closure, requests for gift cards, crypto, wire transfers or one-time codes. Real agencies and banks don't do this.

4. Report it

Report the number so the next person gets warned. It takes under a minute and can be anonymous.

Can I find out exactly who called?

Often not. Scammers routinely fake the caller ID (called "spoofing") so a call can show a real person's number or your own area code. That's why a number with complaints is a warning sign, not proof about whoever owns the line. If nobody has reported it, that doesn't mean it's safe either — judge the call by what the caller asked for.

If the caller claimed to be your bank, a government agency or a delivery company, hang up and call them back on the number printed on your card, bill or their official website.

If you already paid or shared details

  • Call your bank or card issuer right away using the number on your card.
  • Shared your Social Security number? Go to identitytheft.gov and freeze your credit.
  • Report the loss at reportfraud.ftc.gov and, for larger losses, at ic3.gov.
  • Be wary of anyone who later offers to "recover" your money for a fee.
