Methodology & limitations
Each US number in the registry is mapped to a state using its North American area code. States are shown only when they carry at least 25 complaints, so thin data is not dressed up as a trend.
Toll-free numbers (800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877, 888) cannot be attributed to any state and are excluded from the table: 66,855 complaints across 41,224 numbers. A further 18,476 complaints sit on codes we cannot map to a state.
An area code reflects where a number was issued, not where the caller is. Spoofed caller ID is common in scam calling, so treat these figures as the distribution of reported numbers, not of criminals or of victims.
Counts are complaint records, never unique people. No reporter data is published.
