First 10 minutes if something happens

1. 1.Get to a safe, public spot (café, hotel lobby, shop) and call Tourist Police on 110 if anyone is hurt or in immediate danger.
2. 2.Freeze cards immediately in your bank app (do this before calling the bank — it's faster). Revoke Apple Pay / Google Pay from a trusted device if your phone was taken.
3. 3.Change the password on your primary email from a trusted device, then sign out of every other session. Email is the master key to everything else.
4. 4.Contact Bali Tourist Police on +62 361 224111 to file a report — you'll need the reference number for insurance, banks, and your embassy.

Top 5 scams to watch for

1. 1. Motorbike rental damage extortion
   Renter claims pre-existing scratches are your fault and demands 5–20 million rupiah.
   Avoid: Never hand over your passport — offer a photocopy or cash deposit.
   If it happens: Refuse to pay in cash. Call the Tourist Police (110) and your embassy.
2. 2. ATM skimming (Kuta, Seminyak, Ubud)
   Cards get cloned at rigged ATMs; hundreds of dollars vanish overnight.
   Avoid: Only use ATMs inside bank branches (BCA, Mandiri, BNI) during business hours.
   If it happens: Freeze your card in your banking app immediately.
3. 3. Drink spiking in Kuta / Canggu bars
   Cheap or 'free' cocktails contain methanol or sedatives.
   Avoid: Stick to beer, wine, or sealed spirits at reputable bars/hotels.
   If it happens: If you feel unusually drunk on one drink, get to safety immediately.
4. 4. Taxi meter refusal (Blue Bird impostors)
   Fake 'Blue Bird' taxis charge 3–5× the metered fare.
   Avoid: Use Grab or Gojek — cheaper and pre-priced.
   If it happens: Pay only fair fare — Kuta to airport is ~80,000 IDR.
5. 5. Fake police 'fine' at road stops
   Uniformed officers stop you for a 'violation' and demand cash 'fine' on the spot.
   Avoid: Carry a driver's licence AND an International Driving Permit — required by law.
   If it happens: Insist on going to the police station and getting an official receipt — corrupt officers back off.
