Telegram is the #1 messenger used by investment scammers in 2026. The platform's massive group sizes, easy bot integration, and pseudonymous accounts make it the perfect funnel.
The funnel
- The bait channel. Free signals, "5000 members", screenshots of green PnL every day. Most members are bots.
- The mentor DM. An "analyst" reaches out, friendly, never asks for money for weeks.
- The VIP pitch. "Join the private group, 95% win rate, only this week." Entry fee in USDT.
- The copy-trade trap. You're told to fund a "linked" account on a specific (fake) exchange. They "trade for you".
- The slaughter. Withdrawal blocked — tax, margin call, KYC upgrade. Endless top-ups.
Red flags
- Group admins with no traceable identity outside Telegram.
- Pinned messages full of fake "withdrew $50k today" screenshots.
- Pressure to move discussion to a 1-on-1 DM.
- Any request to deposit on a platform you've never heard of.
- The "exchange" isn't on the FCA / ASIC / SEC / MAS register.
What to do
Screenshot the group, the admin profile, and any deposit instructions. Report the channel to Telegram (Settings → Report) and submit it to GACS so the next person searching the group name gets warned.
